The Hunger Games Poster Series - Bauhaus & Art Deco

For this project, I created three posters inspired by the Hunger Games series, focused on the movies. My mission was to pick two styles for the first two, followed by a mix of both of those styles for the third and final poster. I added a quote, the respective mockingjay and a cohesive colour palette throughout all of the posters. This is a project I am very proud of!
I began by creating moodboards, although my colour palettes diverged from this original research, looking into some existing work in these styles as well as some typefaces was incredibly helpful in finding the direction I wanted to go into.
Art Deco Style
Here, I wanted to show an Art Deco interpretation of the scene where Katniss does the interview with Ceasar Flickerman prior to the beginning of the Hunger Games. In this scene, her stylist has created a dress which generates flames as she spins. I found this resonated with the nature of Art Deco. The 1920's was an extravagant decade where they loved spectacle and opulence, corresponding exactly to the aesthetic of the Capitol from this Universe.
Spot lights were a reoccurring element I saw while researching this style and found this was perfect for this poster, suggesting the figure being on stage. The style of the flames is inspired by flames found while researching this style.
This version of the Mockingjay represents the first novel.
Bauhaus Style
For this Catching Fire poster, I moved forward with the simple nature of the Bauhaus style, being heavily inspired by what I had found during my research. This Mockingjay corresponds to the second novel, showing a different shape than the previous.

For the header, I played with the kerning of the type face to add visual diversity as well as represent the Bauhaus style.
A mix of both
I chose typefaces that represented both Art Deco and Bauhaus in order to amplify the style I was trying to convey. For the final one, I chose the Bauhaus-esk imagery alongside the Art Deco type which, although treated like Bauhaus, still brings its charm to this poster.
